Visa receives President’s Peace Prize for its support of Ukraine
KYIV, December 2, 2022 — On November 28, the Visa company received the Peace Prize from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The awarding ceremony took place on November 28 in the USA during a personal meeting of the recently appointed CEO of Visa Ryan McInerney with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, during which the parties discussed new options for cooperation and strategic projects jointly implemented by Visa and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
"We started working with Visa from the first days of the ministry’s existence. And since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our cooperation has only intensified, and we have received incredible support from the company. In particular, the company supported PayPal launch in Ukraine, and also, jointly with Visa, we restarted the Diia.Business center in Bucha, which was destroyed by the Russian army. With the support of the company, the first Diia Summit was held abroad. And this is only a part of dozens of projects that we have already managed to implement together with Visa. And will implement much more in the future," said Mykhailo Fedorov.
The Peace Prize is an award for companies and organizations that have left Russia, as well as for governments, officials, and politicians, who supported Ukraine economically, politically or through humanitarian aid since the start of the Russian military invasion.
In early March, Visa announced the suspension of operations in Russia. Since that time, Visa has not supported the processing of Visa cards issued by Russian banks in the territory of the Russian Federation, nor on international online resources. Also, Visa cards issued outside Russia are not serviced by the company within the territory of the Russian Federation.
"It is a great honor for us to receive the Peace Prize from the President of Ukraine. We believe in the projects of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and are proud to support several important initiatives that have helped accelerate digitization in Ukraine. For us, this is an opportunity to help Ukrainian entrepreneurs, businesses and the country. We look forward to continuing to jointly implement innovative programs that can help support Ukraine’s continued recovery, and partnering with the Ukrainian government to build stronger economies and societies today and in the future," said Ryan McInerney, Visa CEO.
Visa is a permanent partner of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine in the development of the Ukrainian cashless economy and entrepreneurship. In the fall of 2019, both parties signed a memorandum of cooperation to accelerate the digitalization of the country, the development of online government services, and promote the development of entrepreneurship. In particular, the company supports the development of the Diia.Business network of entrepreneur support centers for Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses. Recently, the company supported the Ministry in the opening of the West Ukraine Digital Project Office (in Ternopil) and the recovery of a new Diia.Business consulting center for SMEs in Bucha.
