PrivatBank and Visa presented a mobile payment solution for transport operators based on the ‘Terminal’ app in Ukraine

KYIV, December 18, 2023 — During a joint event dedicated to innovations to support small businesses in Ukraine, PrivatBank and Visa presented a new mobile payment solution based on the ‘Terminal’ app for transport operators that ensures the convenience and accessibility of contactless payments for public transport.

The technology of contactless payments based on the ‘Terminal’ app for transport is a convenient and easy-to-implement solution, open to all transport operators, that already works in route taxis in Kyiv and the region. Contactless payments are available on 20 buses on route No. 368 from Kontraktova Ploshcha Station to Boyarka, 18 buses on route No. 820 from Kontraktova Ploshcha Station to Vyshneve, and 10 buses on route No. 805 from Vokzalna Station to Vyshneve.

The ‘Terminal’ app for Android and iPhone based on Visa Tap to Phone technology enables entrepreneurs and small businesses to accept cashless payments from a smartphone without additional equipment (POS terminals, card readers, QR codes, etc.). The ‘Terminal’ app, developed by the PrivatBank team in partnership with Visa and based on Tap to Phone, is a comprehensive, ready-made solution for businesses that enables not only accepting payments but also documenting monetary transactions with the help of a software POS system, creating and fiscalizing receipts, and transferring information to the tax office—all of this can be done via a smartphone.

Two years after the launch of the first ‘Terminal’ app for Android and in October 2023 for iPhone, more than 60,000 Ukrainian entrepreneurs from all business fields—beauty salons, convenience stores, coffee shops, service stations, as well as mobile businesses like courier delivery and street vending. The number of transactions is up to 6.5 million per month, for a total of over UAH 2.7 billion.

The participants of the event were able to test firsthand how ‘Terminal’ works at small business outlets, some of which were presented during the event: a coffee shop, a flower shop, a hair salon, a kiosk selling tickets for events, and of course, a courier delivery service. After the event, which the organizers called the ‘Terminal’ quest, ended, its participants could get to the metro by route taxis that operate and accept fare payments via ‘Terminal’.
